Congestion Pricing May Give Queens Residents Indigestion

Mayor Bloomberg wants to charge motorists entering parts of Manhattan during certain hours of the day. This will do nothing for Queens except put undue financial burden on an already overtaxed populace.

The city should do more to extensively improve the public transportation infrastructure and adding additional services to an already over-crowded and inefficient system.

More local buses, additional express buses to Manhattan, cleaning up the subway and decreasing time intervals between trains, re-opening closed Long Island railroad stations, and implementing a ferry service from the Rockaways to Manhattan should be considered before levying congestion taxes on hard working Queens businesses and residents.

Congesting pricing will have an adverse impact on Queens and do nothing to improve our already failing transportation system.

No Taxation without better Transportation!!!!!

I think the Mayor has done a pretty good job as a whole except for the Blackout in Astoria, The Ice storm and this bad Idea for Queens. Hey Mike change your mind on this one. You may yet earn my Presidential vote.

How can anyone blame Bloomberg for the blackout in Astoria? The cause of the blackout is an antiquated electrical grid being overburdened by an increasingly overdeveloped area. This is exactly what happens when you do not upgrade the infrastructure of a community and do nothing to stop these overzealous contractors from filling every nook and cranny with overzoned buildings. The fault lies with the DOB and the local representatives.

Improving the public transportation infrastucture may mean reactiving idle or underused track right of ways, such as the LIRR Montauk Branch or Rockaway Branch.

This never gets anywhere, though, since locals always oppose reactivating these railways, fearing the wrong "element' may use them, fearing noise, etc.

The Montauk (running through Jamaica, Richmond Hill, Glendale, Maspeth and LIC) is ripe for transformation into a local subway line, as is the Rockaway Branch through Rego Park, Forest Hills and Woodhaven.

Let's begin to think creatively about underused facilities.

One solution to development is to mandate upgrades to the infastructure as buildings are being built. The contractor would need to finance these upgrades which then would be incorporated into the price of the buildings. It is being done nation wide. The fact is that we have a shortage of housing in the city, blaming local officials is counterproductive. We have a large amount of immigrants entering our city, no one seems to want to adress the real issue. While most of us came from a foreign country times have changed . We can no longer continue to leave our borders open and let the flood of unchecked masses enter. We should have responsable DOB enforcement, any person making a complaint must do it on the record. No hersay just facts. If there is an illegal conversion rented to large groups of people those building must be checked . If you have a summer kitchen or a basment bathroom for personal use that should be legal . This is where we can ask for help from our elected officials. Chastising them only hurts our community. We should all work together to improve our communties not fight on personal opinions.

I am not quite sure what the above statement about Christine Wilkinson has to do with the topic at hand but there will never be any good dialogue if there is mud slinging.

Does the city really need more housing that bad? At what point does a city say that there just isn't anymore room and that is enough? If there isn't enough room on the bookshelf for all your books don't you move them to another bookshelf?
I believe that everyone does NOT have to live in one city. There are other places to live. Some sort of quality of life needs to be maintained.

Hey Real Republican Mayor Mike stood up for the Utilities instead of the people. He is an out of touch Billionaire and a tax and spend Liberal if you were a "Real Republican" you would denounce this RINO.
