Pay To Play In Mudville...

We received an interesting letter via e-mail regarding fees associated with playing for a certain local baseball team. At first we thought maybe this was a plant or a ploy, however, a friend from Long Island actually has his son playing for the very same organization and verified the authenticity of the letter.

Being an old time avid fan of baseball and a lover of the paperback detective novel, I figured I snoop around and see if the letter passed the smell test.

In the letter, it states that each player must pay the $850.00 in full upon signing of the roster. Too bad for the less fortunate who have talented sons and no payment options. Then the letter goes on to itemize how the money is allocated. So here is a novice detective's findings of what each item can cost.

First we have the Uniform. I called many places and looked on line and the prices for a full uniform down to the socks and athletic supporter can range from $100.00 - $200.00.

League fees vary from league to league so we decided to take the highest league cost of $2000.00.

Every league needs insurance to protect players who are injured from high medical costs. During our inquiries most league representatives informed us that most players utilize their parents personal medical insurance coverage and the league insurance is an additional safety net. Insurance has a wide range of costs depending on policy, we are taking the highest quote at $4000.00.

Umpire fees were quoted as $50 per ump per game. There are usually two umpires officiating a game. Cost is $100 per game x 54 games = $5,400.00.

Every game needs baseballs and they cost about $25 per dozen. Each of the three teams plays 18 games and it takes about 6 balls to complete a game. 18x3=51 games. 51 games x 6= 306. Lets add 60 balls for practice, so that's 366 baseballs which costs approximately $763.00.

Now here is the confusing part of the equation. There is a line item for field maintenance, however, since the Juniper Park fields are located in a public park and paid for by taxpayer money, I'm not quite sure how a private organization can ask members to pay for this service.

In addition there is a fee for pitching and hitting consultation. I know that the dedicated and experienced coaches who volunteer their time can accomplish this task, so once again I'm not sure how you can charge for that service. Unless, they have Don Mattingly and Tom Seaver as their guest coaches to instruct the players.

Then there is the unlimited use of batting cages at Juniper Park throughout the baseball season. Here is another cost that is paid for by the generous taxpayers of our neighborhood and not quite sure how you can levy a fee for usage.

So at $850.00 x 60 players = $51000 (3 teams, 20 players per team)

Here goes:

Uniforms: $12000.00
League fees: $2000.00
Insurance: $4000.00
Umpires: $5400.00
Baseballs: $763.00
Field Maintenance: $???.??
Hitting and pitching instruction: $???.??
Unlimited use of cages: $???.??
IRS Audit of the Midville Dodgers: PRICELESS

Unless, field maintenance, hitting and pitching consultation and unlimited use of cages equals $26,837.00, (This is the base number because we did not include money that the organization receives from elected officials, business donations, private contributions and money made from baseball clinics). You do the math.

If anyone can shed some light on these findings, please feel free to interject your opinion and knowledge.

I'm no General Manager, but something doesn't add up!

I think you may be on to something. Not only does it seem that the numbers don't add up but it is apparent that the this league is only for those players who have parents that can pay. This is so much unlike the Queens Falcons who make provisions for those individuals who may not be able to afford to play. What a shame that America's pasttime has been reduced to finances.

This is a travesty. Thanks for bringing this issue to light

Do you think any of the surplus funds is diverted back to the JPCA? How eles could they afford all those law suits?

An open Note to Commissioner Lewendowski:

The upper ball fields in Juniper Valley Park do not belong to the special interest ball clubs that play in for profit leagues and are designed for profit! The fields belong to the people! Not the best players from Long Island signed on to play for Midville. The Ball Fields are for the Taxpaying City Residents.

For the young men and woman who are looking for a place to play. Do you know how frustrating it is to go to the park with my children and a few friends and see perfectly good ball fields just sitting unused? My Tax dollars paid for the renovation, and my tax dollars were paying for the Dodgers to keep the fields locked! Shame on the Parks Department for allowing this! Shame on the elected officials for allowing this! Shame on anyone who supports or condones this behavior! As a member of Our Lady of Hope I just received a letter in my home about this miscarriage of justice linking me to this site. I hope this organization has the moral courage to stand up for the "Real" people of Middle Village, not community board 5 members who are President of a civic and use power to advance themselves. Commissioner stand up for the little guy, the ones who are not corrupting the system!

Don't forget that this organization gets Corporate sponsorship as well- seems likely that someone is dipping into the cookie jar

Something is wrong here in the Juniper Berry Magazine Bob Holden highlights the Midville Dodgers summer camps..."designed to raise money for Juniper Valley Park Conservancy to maintain the Ball fields." Where did that money go? Seems like this is a Holden Slush Fund.

Anonymous said...

Guess what the Juniper Berry also list corporate and governmental sponsors. The Governmental sponsors were over $25,000. Where did that money go?

Anonymous said...

Do you mean that City Taxpayer money was speant on Midville ballplayers from upstate and Long Island?

Give Mr. Midville Bob Holden a break the JPCA was running out of money the Midville Dodgers had to pay for Bob's illegal work area in his basement.

What a Fraud!

I just got a flyer dropped off to my home on this site and the things you said about the JPCA are dead wrong. We all know Bob is wound a little tight but he works hard. Even if he takes some money for himself who cares they all do it. Focus on Immigration an issue that’s killing this City and Country. We can’t just keep letting everyone in!

Anonymous said...

The Midville Dodgers not only get money from Government but the get sponsorships from banks, including banks that give loans to developers. I think Bob Holden yells about everyone else to shift the focus from his fraudulent activities! Why doesn’t the Weeble yell at her Lover boy about this.

I bet he doesn’t pay taxes on the money he steals! Maybe he will use that money to buy Tony the Tulips daughter some protection. I can’t wait to mail that out to everyone.

Unlimited use of cages in Juniper Park is Holden now the Mayor or Commissioner. What if my son wants to play? I am begining to hate this guy!

The Midville Dodgers is just a way for King Bob to pad his pockets. Thanks to this site, we are getting to know the truth about this Bastard.

Thank you Patrick cursing should not be part of this site

The Patriots are figuring out what people in the know knew for awhile. Bob Holden involves himself in things he makes money on! Legally or Illegally. All the money should go to the kids. he took a page from the Avella School of screwing kids for profit. I hope the Attorney General is really looking.

New to this site came here because of a flyer given out at Our Lady of Hope. Who is this guy Holden? I lived in Middle Village for 10 years I couldn't pick him out of a line up.

Anonymous said...

You may not have to pick him out of a lineup someone else has already fingered him.

Anonymous said...

What is all this talk about Midville I have watched the games they are not bad at all.

Anonymous said...

The Midville kids are good and deserve to play. But Holden should not be misappropriating money. He “borrows” from the civic and now the Dodgers. What next Bob steal some money from a Senior Bowling League?

Anonymous said...

Hey Patrick tell this nut with the Open Letter to the Parks Commissioner to write her at the office! Put up a link for him/her/it.

The Juniper Berry actually thanked Maspeth Town hall for supporting them. Why is it the Three Stooges. Holden, Nunziato and Caruana attack Maspeth Town Hall. I guess Maspeth Town Hall realized someone might be cooking the books.

Anonymous said...

Who oversees the Juniper Park Conservancy? Is the money raised for two fields or the whole park? Can we as the public look at the donations and the books it is our park. Or is being used by Above the Law Holden for a Slush fund!

Anonymous said...

Fact Bob Holden Bribed an elected official.
Fact he stole money from Midville Dodgers.
Fact he used money from the Civic to pay for home decorating.
Fact he is being looked at very closely.
Fact he may follow Detrano.

Vincent Brannigan a name Bob Holden is going to hate when he reads his letter to the community.

This site is getting to serious time for a joke:

Question:
How do you get an entire basketball team into Tony the Tulips Flower shop?

Answer: You invite Tulips Daughter

Those Tulips: Service with a smile!

Anonymous said...

It appears that some people are on a mission to destroy a great opportunity for kids that want to play baseball. I think that what Holden has done for these kids is commendable. Instead of bashing, volunteer some time doing good things in the community.

Anonymous said...

We have no objection to Holden having a Baseball team. But when the rest of the community can't play and Midville Dodgers Field maintainers kick Our Lady of Hope kids off a public field that represents a problem.

Anonymous said...

Hey to the poster who is Bob's buddy If your son plays for Mudville why don't you ask to see the books. Then Post how he cheats the Kids out of money!

Anonymous said...

While Mr. Mudville Holden steals, lies and cheats the few will always defend him. How does that Kool-Aid taste?

Anonymous said...

Hey he cheats at New York Tech too!

Anonymous said...

Hey Jokester that is not funny what about the girl who really got hurt because Tulips wouldn't let the daughter talk! He is a angry hurtful self-centered man.

Anonymous said...

Why dosen't Bob open his books to shut these posters up?

Anonymous said...

Bob has outside interest at NY Tech he has to pay for. Amy can't know!

can someone please help me find out how many corp.king bob is hiding behind.
this man is skimming money from everwhere . bob the press is getting closer

Anonymous said...

King Bob do you or do you not have a business illegally running in your basement? Do you profit from the Dodgers? Do you file Tax returns? Are you skimming from the Kids? Come clean its ok we already know the truth. The Truth will be Told God Bless The Patriots

Anonymous said...

I can't believe how far this site has come in a few weeks. Patrick Henry you should review some of your beginning post for those who have just learned of you and the Patriots.

Anonymous said...

Holden pulling a page from Brian M, using kids baseball money for himself? Contact the State Department look for his filings you can't find them. Why because he profits thats why.
