Congress blindfolding Vigilant Americans?

Back On April 23, the Patriots commended Congressman Peter King for his efforts to try to protect American citizens from being sued after reporting suspicious activity.

Congressman Peter King Fights To Protect Our Security

Currently, there is an important piece of legislation (H.R. 1 and S. 4) to implement more anti-terrorism recommendations brought forth by the findings of the 9/11 Commission. However, this important legislation is in jeopardy of not being passed because of the debate regarding whether citizens who report suspicious activity should be immune to lawsuits.

Republicans demanded that a provision be added to the legislation affording immunity to citizens who report suspicious activity. This stemmed form an incident where six Muslim scholars were removed from a flight in Minneapolis after other passengers said they were acting suspiciously. Consequently, the imams have since filed a lawsuit, saying their civil rights were violated.

Democrats are arguing that the wording of the measure is too broad and would protect even those who knowingly and maliciously call in a false "tip." While Congressman King, the author of the provision, states, "Every issue has been resolved except the immunity for good people who report suspicious activity.” He also accuses that Democrats are “caving” to lawsuit loving liberals.

This legislation is too important to stall because of the “language” of a particular provision. Especially when that provision protects vigilant and watchful Americans, who, in good faith reports suspicious activities to authorities. The Patriots suggest you contact your representatives in Washington and urge them to keep the immunity section (King Amendment) in the final bill.

Lets hope our elected officials do not play political games that could compromise our safety when traveling.

This shouldn’t even be a debate. We should not have to worry that we will be sued if we report what we feel is suspicious behavior.

What happened to if you see something, say something! These politicians better not vote to remove that provision.

I rather have 1000 reports that are found to be harmless, if it stops one terrorist attack and saves thousands of lives.

I hope our senators do not vote to tie our hands, blindfold our eyes and close our mouths in order to protect the rights of those who wish us harm.

Patriots--don't waste your time with national issues that you can't effect.

Watch the local issues, where you have tremendous influence on public opinion.

Case in point: You should write a piece on how Holden's appears to be positioning himself to run in a Special Election if Gallagher is forced to resign or is kicked off the City Council.

Few people will vote in a Special Election and Holden will scamper out from behind his rock of denial that he wants a Council seat and try to slither into Gallagher's vacated seat.

In a Special Election, there's no party affiliation, nor primaries, and historically few people bother to vote.

Think of the mischief Holden would cause if he's in the Council. He'd also be an incumbant and try to sweet talk the Queens Democrats into allowing him to run again in 2008.

Please continue to expose this charlatan for who and what he is. Please continue to show the borough and entire City that Holden and his executive board for life represent no one but themselves.

When's the last time the JPCA had a general election for executive board members? When was the last time the JPCA had an election on any issue? Their five or six member executive board claims to represent mv and the surrounding area. HA!

Keep vigilant! Watch this nightmare scenario play out unless you're vigilant.

Thank you for your opinion, however, we dont feel posting about important national issues is a waste of time.

The liberals of this country are going to undermine our safety in the name of political correctness and pandering to a non-exisatent voter block they believe exists somehwere in America. The liberals should listen to the American people, we are sick and tired of you hypocrites always being on the wrong side of history!

To the Poster who talks about the JPCA the real question is when was the last time the JPCA had a vote of a treasurers report?

Does the Civic realize their dues are paying for Long Island Baseball players?

How much has been spent $100,000 or more?

Did Holden obscound with some of that money?

Bob won't answer but he is being investigated.
