The Boys of Blunder

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is reeling from the New York State Legislature’s failure to take decisive action concerning congesting pricing. He’s gone so far as telling Spitzer, Bruno and Silver that they don’t have the guts to lead from the front. I hope that Iron Mike is not surprised about the actions of the “big boys” up in Albany because this has been their modus operendi for decades. The very same type of actions or lack thereof that Spitzer had vowed to change but was amazingly silent during the congestion pricingsummit.

Congestion pricing has become a hot topic with both sides being very passionate and persuasive as to the plan’s ultimate effectiveness in solving the traffic problem. However, everyone can agree that something needs to be done and soon. One thing is for certain, inaction, pandering, and political chess will do little to ameliorate the horrendous congestion problem in Manhattan. Ultimately, we need money to vastly improve our mass transit system, we need real solutions in limiting car traffic and we need our politicians to act now.

Please share your thoughts on congestion pricing.

Mayor Bloomberg is lucky he ran against a super Liberal crazy Dem Freddy Ferrer anyone else he could never beat!

He overtaxed the middle class and then praised himself for Budget Surpluses.

Please run for President so you won't pay anymore attention to NYC except _ The Mayor's type of attention is not what we need.

congestion pricing is just another way to tax Middle Class Queens residents, when will people understand this guy Bloomberg can't understand the working class.

Congestion pricing if it is good for Manhattan screw Queens!

How many people from Queens really drive into Manhattan every weekday during business hours? I can't think of any. I work in midtown and wouldn't think of driving into Manhattan every day. I think most non-commercial drivers are suburbanites that work in Manhattan.

Bloomberg still wins this and gets his congestion pricing. Watch. And watch how many other deals get linked to it to get it done.

Congestion is really hampering the economic vitality of NYC. Only about 5% of Queens residents drive to Manhattan. I doubt if any of them would be considered middle class -- its just too expensive to drive everyday with the price of parking.

Congestion pricing would have been a 3 year pilot program funded by $500 million from the Feds. Mass transit would have been improved (more express buses) before the charge was implemented. The health and economic benefits of this program are too important not to try for three years. If it doesn't work, we can try again. But, we needed to do something yesterday to address congestion.

I think it is unfair to charge drivers to enter Manhattan. It doesn't work in London and it won't work here. The only one that benefits is govenment. We need to fix our mass transit system and keep it affordable and it will be used.

Take away all the police and court officer plaques that are used for personal parking and the streets will be cleared. Believe me they are a big cause of the traffic jams. Have you noticed the illegally parked cars in Manhanttan have these plaques in their windshields? Give them out and make sure they are returned the same day if they are needed for official business.

Queens will suffer, cars will park all around the subway and bus stations to avoid the tax.

It is a bad idea and benefits only those that live in Manhattan. Store owners will have to charge more for their merchandise if delivery men are paying the tax to enter and deliver in the city.

Come on Bloomberg......fix the mass transit system and take away all the privlaged parking that is clogging up the streets....the big reason for the merging mess that goes on in the city.

If Bloomberg wants $500 million a year without taxing city residents to travel within their own city ask Spitzer and Silver and Bruno for the commuter tax back!

Maybe if Bloomberg tried to get this tax back we could provide tax relief to our citizens and improve Mass transit

I agree.....BRING BACK THE COMMUTER TAX!

Congestion Pricing might happen as per the news today. Those who are not for it better get their pens and typing fingers going.

Unfortunately, it appears that whatever Bloomberg wants he gets. He really needs to hear loud and clear that most New Yorkers are against it!

Hey why haven’t more legislative leaders spoke about the commuter tax that would be revenue for every year!

I agree, BRING BACK THE COMMUTER TAX AND SQUASH CONGESTIVE PRICING.

I cannot fathom why Queens residents are against this. Queens residents by and large do not drive into Manhattan during work hours on weekdays, and this plan will bring hundreds of millions of dollars of federal money to improve mass transit. Is everyone here thinking this through?

Thought it through and still think it is a bad idea. Anytime we are charged a toll the money never goes for its intented use. If you think that the NYC Mass Transit System will benefit from this you must be delustional. The only one who will benefit is govenment. It will never trickle down to any NYC resident or any NYC Borough. There has to be a better way. Stop the city official's parking plaques that they use to park anywhere they feel like in NYC. It will clear up the streets....believe me......IT WILL.
