Queens Vietnam War Memorial

On Saturday, June 9th I attended a kick off ceremony hosted by the Friends of the Vietnam War Memorial as a representative from my American Legion Post. I was very happy to learn that the NYC Parks Department has agreed to have a Queens Vietnam War Memorial erected in the new park designated for the old Keyspan gas tank site. The event was attended by many elected officials, community leaders, veterans and local residents. Those in attendance were informed that the organizers of the event wanted to get the word out to the public because they need our support to help make this important project a reality.

This is a long overdue tribute to the brave men and women from Queens who gave their lives serving our great nation during the Vietnam War. It is extremely important that we have these types of memorials built to remind us that many patriots paid the ultimate price so that we may enjoy our freedoms as Americans.

I hope that everyone supports the Queens Vietnam War Memorial. Please remember that when you honor one group of veterans, you honor all veterans.

The Juniper Park Patriots supports this memorial and all causes that honor our veterans.

God Bless America

The park should commemorate all those killed in war, not just the Vietnam War. If you wanted to honor all, you wouldn't call it the Vietnam War Memorial!

That hypocrite, Pat Toro, told people he couldn't get involved in helping to save the park, yet the minute it's saved, he rushes in to grandstand. What a joke.

God Bless our Vetrans. Pat T keep up the great work. At least JPCA/CRAP can't protest this memorial.Thank God they have zero input on this park.

I think this will be a great centerpiece to the new park. It is a real shame that it was shot down for Juniper Park, the only city park run by the "People's Republic of Middle Village".

The Vietnam Veterans served our Country with Pride and Dignity and returned home to a citizenry that unfortunately blamed them for the mistakes made by our political leadership. This memorial is long overdue. We owe these brave men and women our thanks and respect. To those that did not return, we MUST remember and honor them forever, as we do for all those who have given their lives to protect America in both the past and the future.

The memorial should be for those dying in Iraq. The park was saved by JPCA while the kids were fighting over there.

JPCA did help, however a great amount of credit should go to Councilmembers Gallagher and Katz. While civics may think they have the authority to implement law its the councilmembers who get the jobs done. If you need a tree the berry has a form to be filled out and then it is sent where? To the coumcilmember of the district. So the moral of the story again is don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The old JPCA deserves credit. The new JPCA are led by extreamist. What a shame a once great organization is fading away

To "anonymous who thinks Pat Toro is a hypocrite" - Your statement couldn't be farther from the truth. Pat Toro is one of the finest and most decent person I have ever had the pleasure to meet and become friends with. If you knew the man, as so many of us do, you would know that "grandstanding" is last on his list, right after his willingness to sacrifice himself for his family, his Country and his Corp (the Marine Corp). His dedication to this Vietnam War Memorial is unwavering, as his committment to helping not only the Vietnam War Veterans, but all U.S. Veterans.

After reading your comment, I realize why you hide behind "anonymous" - You don't want people to know just how stupid you are. But rest assured, even if Pat knew who you were, if you needed a hand, the Pat Toro I know, would still extend his to help you.

Vietnam was 40 years ago man! Let's move on! Yes, 50,000 lives were lost. It's tragic. But let's honor all Veterans! WWI, WWII, Korea, VietNam, Kuwait, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan. It's pretty self-centered to exclude all other veterans. I served and still serve as a reservist.
