Education and Apple Pie Score High with the MVMCA...

Congratulations to the Middle Village Maspeth Civic Association for their great meeting on June 14th. During the meeting the MVMCA honored four local outstanding leaders in Education. The Honorees were Principal Sister Jean Redigan of Our Lady of Hope, Principal Sister Bridget Olwell of St. Margaret’s, Principal Anthony Lombardi of P.S. 49, and Principal John Lavelle of P.S. 128. Principals give so much to the students and the communities they serve and it is wonderful to know that there are groups out there who take the time to honor their efforts.

In honor of Flag Day, the MVMCA had President Pat Toro of the Vietnam Veteran’s of American do a special presentation regarding the history, proper display and proper disposal of our American Flag. As a Korean War veteran, I was extremely pleased that there are still patriots out there who honor, respect and revere Old Glory.
The Middle Village Maspeth Civic Association was also kind and generous enough to serve the hundreds in attendance hot dogs and apple pie to add to the American pride theme. I look forward to attending future meetings and wish the organization lots of luck and success in all their efforts in trying to improve and assist the communities of Middle Village and Maspeth. God bless you and God Bless America.

This is what a civic association should be about! It is nice to see an organization taking the time to honor community leaders and promote American patriotism. Where do I sign up!?

Quite a full house! A stark contrast to that "other" Civic, which, despite coffee and danish, can't attract the community to the ways of Bob H. and his cronies.

The game is up.

What about the part where community members got shouted down and when you guys turned off a microphone on a speaker?.....Oh, sorry, wrong Civic....Never mind!

While it's true that there was a nice turn out of a couple of hundred people at the start of the meeting, approximately 3/4 of the crowd left after the presentation of the awards to the educators. The hall was full of students, staff, faculty and parents of the respective principals. While it was very heartening to see the support those individuals showed to the recipients let us not confuse their attendence with support for the MVMCA. That said, I do applaud the MVMCA for recognizing these individuals and as a result you can now count on me to be a supporter.

The JPCA Man of the Year ceremony did not have this much support despite the fact that Bob H imported a Sonny Carson supporter as Middle Village Man of the Year

Now hear this the JPCA is losing it! There anger and hatred is turning people off.

Long gone are the days when the Juniper Civic was a powerful organization. Elected officials don't trust the leadership and the membership hate the dictorial fashion in which the meetings are run

The MVMCA is in its first year and already has made an impact. JPCA should learn to work with them instead of lambasting everything they do.

Under Bob Holdens leadership the Juniper Valley Civic has become the "Angry Political Wannabe Civic"

I can't believe how much of my membership money has been spent on the Baseball Team.

As a member of the Civic I am going to demand an accounting.

Who are the Midville Dodgers where do they live and why are we using civic money to pay for the team?

The thing I like about the MVMCA is education is important to them. When someone wants to speak about education in a Juniper meeting, the microphone is pulled.

You right The Juniper Civic people tried to oppose the expansion of 128 but the parents were there waiting for it! Ed Kampermann actually told me "It will never happen"

Juniper is the anti education civic

All Juniper cares about is keeping dogs out of the park and making sure Holden can profit from his Baseball league at taxpayer and civic expense.

This Civic has run amuck

Great start by focusing on Civics why dosn't this site do an analysis on our elected official?

Dear Patrick Henry - I would like to thank you for your kind words and accolades, along with your accurate reporting, of our June 14th meeting. But, after reading some of the posted comments, I would like to take a moment to clarify what appears to be a growing misconception.

As the President and spokesperson of the MVMCA, I want to make it absolutely clear that we, the MVMCA, are not in competition with any other organization or individual. We harbor no bias or malice towards anyone. In fact, our mission statement is just the opposite. We believe that working closely with other organizations, community leaders, elected officials and local businesses, will greatly enhance what is a common goal - to address issues of importance to our community and to have a positive impact on our quality of life. That is why we were extremely grateful to have at our June 14th meeting, John Schell, a long time member of Community Board 5, Executive member of the Middle Village Property Owners and Residents Association and prominent community leader, address the membership regarding certain public works projects designated for our area.

The MVMCA looks forward to working with any and all organizations and individuals to attain our common goals.

why doesn't everyone wake up. The MVMCA was started to try to ruin the Juniper Park Civic. If the councilman and his fat friend were so worried about education and the community, they wouldn't be spending so much time worrying about bob holden. As far as bob holden...he is crazy but he has kept middle village a great neighborhood. call dennis gallagher's office with a real problem. his staff will not get back to you and after all this time they still don't know how to do the job.
