Gov. Paterson Puts same Sex marriage Above Economy
Gov. David A. Paterson plans to introduce legislation on Thursday to make marriage between same-sex couples legal in New York, advancing his push for greater rights for gay men and lesbians, at a time when New York State faces the most devastating financial crisis since the great depression.
Maybe Gov. Paterson should spend time closing budget gaps, find ways to restore vital services instead of making massive cuts, work diligently to come up with a plan to prevent another fare hike for the MTA. He should hold off on the marriage bill and suggest that same sex couples enjoy long engagements and wait until he fixes the economic crisis.
Unfortunately, Paterson wants to pander to the gay and lesbian vote because he is realizing that they may be the only ones to vote for him in 2010.

It is amazing how disrespectful or maybe just dumb Paterson is to introduce this the week NYC is installing our new Archbishop in the Catholic Church. He couldn't wait a week or two. NY is in desperate need of brain surgeons!
The Catholic Church is a religion- it is not a government.
Advocating equal rights for all should take a back seat to no one and no institution.
The prior poster is making a connection that does not exist.
Wha happened to this blog? Who is the jerk running it. Queens Crap is much better!!
This blog is history. Shut it down.
I miss Jake/Kerry/James/Como. Where did they go?
We should hold off on this legislation to defer to the Catholic Church's discriminatory policies? Oh please.
Respect!
How about the Catholic Church respecting equal rights for all?
Why? Do the other religions have respect for Christians?
It was bad timing Gov.
I say if these same sex parnters can bare children on their own, which is impossible, I think they should just live in sin and have no rights...........
The timing was great, because it led to the new Archbishop commenting on how he will push to stop the legislation, showing everyone how backward, ignorant and discriminatory he is. The Church has no basis in trying to affect government. If you want to have unequal rights and discrimination in your church, fine, but don't try to impose it on others.
Oh great... so by the illogic of one of the posters, those who cannot bear children (one does not "bare" children)should not have the right to marry. How utterly stupid.
Follow Europe. Most European countries have always required a civil ceremony apart from an optional religious one.
People would be legally MARRIED by the state- thereby acquiring all the rights and obligations of marriage.
Those inclined then, also, have a service under their religion's auspices. Call it a wedding or whatever you wish, but the state has the authority of law.
Civil union....Marriage is for a man and a woman.
I must be getting old.
Marraige is for whatever we, as a society, says it is for. It wasn't long ago that certain states made it criminal for mixed races to marry. That means nothing today. Yes, you are old.
I think we have some homosexuals on this blog!
And if you do? So what?
What we definitely have are people who respect the Declaration of Independence:
All Men Are Created Equal.
Over the years, it has been corrected to include African Americans, women, and, with wisdom, all people regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, and whatever else narrow minded, bigoted people would use to limit the rights of others.
This is the best thing this dumb-ass governor stand-in has done so far. this has nothing to do with gay marriage - he's pushing the senate's buttons. He's daring malcolm Smith to show some chops and call it to a vote. malcom will fail, of course, because he doesn't have the votes, the Republicans will look good for standing together and the Dems will be outed for being hypocrits!
if ya ask me, he is looking for the gay votes............
